Yeah seriously. I got tricked into seeing this and I hate admitting it. Thank god for having friends who are addicted to the pirate bay so I didn't waste $9 ;) They used Michael Cera from Superbad to position this movie into the same "space" as Superbad, which it clearly wasn't. Superbad had good old immature and highschool humor that promises to amuse for an hour and a half. I'd barely even call this a comedy after seeing it. Remember: awkward situations != laugh-out-loud funny all the time. Also, Jonah Hill wasn't in this one which takes it down a notch right off the bat. This movie is riding on the success of Superbad... enough said. If this is the kind of material we can expect to come from Hollywood in the next year, I'll find a different hobby.
Before viewing, had heard from a number of people that, while they didn't hate the movie, it wasn't great, and many girls classify this movie as "cute." After watching it, I guess I know what they mean by cute...While I never tried the below, it just seems like that kind of movie.
Scenario:
You're on a third date with this girl you think is mighty good looking and you want to further your relationship...Throw this flick in the DVD player, laugh at the few funny parts, owwhhh at the parts that she owwwhs at and smile when it's over. Pretty much guaranteed a little action between the sheets 5 mins later. That's about all this movie is good for. I did however think
Wow, talk about over rated. This frigging movie tops the charts on the "I want to hip and ironic scale."
In all honesty, I went to see this movie because it was billed as a comedy, with that little goon from Superbad. I went to see it with my girlfriend, and although at the time I was a little disappointed to have dropped the $20, but not irate. Since then however; this movie has been showered in accolades, and undeserved praise.
I know at this point it seems trite to rip on this movie for trying to be an Indy film, but come on. This was pretty bad.
If you go into this movie with any expectations prepare to be disappointed.
Not that its such a terrible movie, but its just super over rated.
