Wow, this was an impressive movie. I went into it expecting a sub par piece with the 'little' Affleck. So my expectations weren't exactly high. Even if they had been I feel this movie would have delivered.
Being from the Boston area myself I could relate to some of the places and attitudes of the people. The Acting was superb and the accent wasn't terribly over done. The plot keeps you guessing until the end and there's never any real lull in the action.
A good film for virtually anyone. I defiantly recommend this one.
Tough year for movie directors/producers. There was just too much competition for best picture. There were so many great flicks this year (this being one of them) that went under the radar and were overpowered by blockbusters like NCFOM and There Will Be Blood. It's not that I don't think they are worthy of the praise they got, because I do, I loved them, but gone baby gone just didn't get the recognition it should have. In my opinion due to the surge of great movies produced this past year. Dennis Lehane makes absolute gems! He is the author of this novel and co-wrote the script. He also wrote Mystic River which is another great mystery thriller based in Boston and he also wrote a few episodes of everyone's favorite HBO show, The Wire. Look out for "Shutter Island" coming out in '09. Another Boston based Lehane book turned movie which is being directed by Scorsese and staring Leonardo DiCaprio. If it is anything like Gone Baby Gone and Mystic River, it should be a contender.
