Coldplay's latest album, Viva La Vida, is a breath of fresh air. The CD kicks ass, end of story. While for most of the album it seems to step away from their normal sound, it really pays off. Fast up tempo songs that pull you in with mezmorizing beats and a choral, almost symphonic sound. Some notable tracks on here are Lost!, Lovers in Japan-Reign of Love, Death and All his Friends, and of course the hit singles, Viva La Vida and Violet Hill. The CD plays in an almost flawless loop and with only 10 tracks you can tell they did not want any garbage songs on there as fillers.

Even if your not into Coldplay I recomend the Cd... At the very least you will have some great hangover music.

Totally agree. This album significantly diverges from what Coldplay fans are used to and expect. As Chris Martin says, "we were terrified about this record, because we've thrown away all our tricks." I wasn't really captured by the first pass through, but the album is truly something creative and unique, with powerful messages. It grows on you very quickly. Seems like there's always a Coldplay hater in any crowd these days, and to you I say: listen before passing judgment. The band's new sound might spark your interest.

Hear about the alleged plagiarism for the Viva la Vida track? Read here: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...an d-849992.html

Sorry, but Chris Martin and Coldplay are a bit too talented and proud to be stealing material, especially from some random, emerging band. This is a great publicity stunt for Creaky Boards, but there's hardly a case. The lead singer is making a huge deal out of false claims. You won't *become* Coldplay by bashing them.

The Band's fourth album, Viva La Vida, answers critics with canny experimentation, honed under the guidance of producer Brian Eno (guru to U2, David Bowie, and Talking Heads, among many others), with help from Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire's Neon Bible) and Rik Simpson. In the arc of Coldplay's career, Viva La Vida may be their Achtung Baby, on which U2 tweaked their self-serious image and explored new sounds in an idiom that still lured stadium crowds. Early response to Viva La Vida suggests that the experiment succeeds. - Spin Magazine July 08

Their experimentation really did work! This album has a different style to it, but it is amazing. I honestly had no doubt in my mind that their next album would be excellent. These artists are so talented and along with the strings, beats, and harmonies the lyrics show a taste of intelligence that makes the music all the more brilliant. Chris Martin sounds like such a likeable guy...and yes...sexy too!

I saw them in Hartford, CT too. I agree with the acoustics in the XL Center not being very good and the energy being low. There seemed to be a loss of connection between the band and the crowd and their performance gave the impression that they wanted to just perform and get out of there. There wasn't much of an encore either. I saw them in Montreal a few years ago and they were amazing! So, I was a bit disappointed after seeing them this time. Chris Martin seems like he enjoys pleasing his fans, but I didn't get this impression in Hartford. Nevertheless...no matter how they perform...I will always want to see them - they're amazing! Come on, they're Coldplay.

Saw these guys in Hartford, CT last night (8/2). The acoustics in the XL Center were sub par and the overall energy of the concert was atypically low. Oddly, this mornings' reviews give the opposite impression. The video balls in the stadium were pretty cool and the alternate version of The Hardest Part was awesome, though I don't know why Chris Martin cut it short... With Coldplay worried about their new material, yet getting a lot of positive reactions, you'd think this tour would have trumped their last (X&Y). The last show I went to in Boston was ridiculously good. I hope this band hasn't lost its talent for performance. Regardless, I was psyched to be there.

I caught them in boston at the garden on 8/4. Great show. My only complaint was it seemed a bit short. they have 4 albums and while they played just about all of Viva la Vida, they didnt touch parachutes too much, or X&Y... The energy of the show was out of control, almost unexpected, I was really impressed and I see a ton of concerts.
